What exactly is sublimation and how does it work?

Sublimation uses a special ink that can then be transferred to another object with a compatible coating.

First print a design with a sublimation printer, which uses special sublimation ink, on to special sublimation paper. And then we use high heat and pressure to transfer the ink permanently to something else that has a coating that can absorb the ink such as a polyester t-shirt or a coated ceramic mug. And after the sublimation cools, which happens quite quickly, the design becomes embedded right in the surface of the object. And it will not crack, peel, rub off, or wash away. Sublimation lasts as long as whatever surface you’re putting it onto, which is way cool. And you can’t feel it, it just becomes a part of the object, which basically it does.

What can you transfer sublimation prints onto?

You can sublimation gorgeous, full color designs onto anything made of polyester or anything with a polyester coating.You can get sublimation blanks for countless items, ceramic mugs, stainless steel tumblers, mouse pads, puzzle, coasters, oven mitts, there’s so many things. Sublimation ink is transparent which means that the base color of your object matters. You’ll notice that most of them are white or light colored. The white or light object is going to show the transparent ink much better than a dark object, because you just kind of won’t see it.

What printer to use for sublimation?

We have sublimation printers that can make beautiful sublimation prints. Lowest cost printer option is usually either the Epson Ecotank. So we recommend the Epson Ecotank for both price and convenience. Canon cannot be converted to work with sublimation because they heat the ink.

What ink can be used for sublimation?

You can’t sublimate with regular inkjet ink or pigment ink. You can only do it with sublimation ink. When you buy our Epson EcoTank Printer, You can buy sublimation ink together. The bottles of sublimation ink that we have are autofill. They are the easiest way to get sublimation ink into your printer.
